The former Jianghan Petroleum Institute belongs to China Petroleum and Natural Gas Group Corporation. Its predecessor was Beijing Institute of Petroleum Technology founded by 1950, and 1978 was named Jianghan Petroleum Institute. Since 2000, it has been established by the central and local governments and placed under the management of Hubei Province. Hubei Agricultural College, formerly known as Huazhong Agricultural College Jingzhou Branch, was founded in 1977 and 1989 with the approval of the State Education Commission.
