The school was founded in 1936, formerly known as the National College of Pharmacy (four-year undergraduate program), and it is the first pharmaceutical college founded by the state in China. 1937 moved back to Hankou, 1938 moved back to Chongqing and 1946 moved back to Nanjing.
1950 was renamed East China Pharmaceutical College. 1952 The Department of Pharmacy of cheeloo university merged with the Department of Pharmacy of Soochow University, and East China College of Pharmacy was established. 1953 pharmacy major of central south health college was merged into the school.
1956 was renamed Nanjing Pharmaceutical College. 1986 merged with Nanjing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine to form China Pharmaceutical University. In 2000, the school was transferred from the State Administration of Pharmaceutical Products to the Ministry of Education. 200 1 Jiangsu pharmaceutical school merged into the school.
By March 2023, the school has two campuses, Xuanwu Gate and Jiangning, covering an area of 2 100 mu and a construction area of 690,000 square meters. There are 16 departments and 3 1 undergraduate majors.
