It is a university jointly established by People's Republic of China (PRC) Emergency Management Department and Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. Xi 'an 985 colleges and universities include: Xi 'an Jiaotong University and Northwestern Polytechnical University; Xi 'an 2 1 1 Universities include Xi Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Air Force Medical University, xidian university, Northwest University, Shaanxi Normal University and Chang 'an University. This shows that Xikeda is not 2 1 1.

The predecessor of Xi 'an University of Science and Technology can be traced back to the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of Beiyang University, which was founded in 1895. 1938 moved and merged with the department of mining and metallurgy of Northwest Institute of Technology, which was formed by the merger of the former department of mining and metallurgy of National Beiyang University Institute of Technology (established in 1895) and the private department of mining and metallurgy of Jiaozuo Institute of Technology (established in 1909).
