Zhaoqing Medical College was founded in 1958, formerly known as Zhaoqing Branch of Sun Yat-sen Medical College, and was upgraded to Zhaoqing Medical College in May 2004. It is the only independent public medical college in Guangdong Province.

1994 and 2000, the school was awarded the title of key middle school by the State Education Commission and the Ministry of Education. 1993 and 1999 jointly run schools with Guangdong Medical College and Sun Yat-sen Medical University, and established Zhaoqing Teaching Department of Guangdong Medical College and Zhaoqing Teaching Point of Sun Yat-sen Medical University respectively.

The school has three campuses: Duanzhou Campus, Dinghu Campus and North Campus. Duanzhou Campus is located on the banks of Xijiang River with pleasant scenery, and Dinghu Campus is adjacent to Dinghu Mountain, a national 4A-level tourist scenic spot. The total floor area is 5 12 mu, and the total construction area is 2 10000 square meters.

Zhaoqing Medical College is the only medical college in Guangdong Province. Its predecessor was Zhaoqing Branch of Sun Yat-sen Medical College, which was founded in 1958. In May 2004, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and transformed into a medical school. There are three campuses in Duanzhou, Dinghu and North Campus, covering an area of 5 12 mu and a building area of 2 10000 square meters. Zhaoqing First People's Hospital has three affiliated hospitals directly under it.

There are more than 700 faculty members, including 78% full-time teachers, more than 45% full-time teachers with senior titles, and more than 0/000 full-time college students. The school has 19 majors, including clinical medicine, nursing, stomatology, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine, midwifery, medical examination technology, medical imaging technology, rehabilitation treatment technology, nursing (foreign-related nursing), nursing (higher vocational education), pharmaceutical marketing, health inspection and quarantine technology, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture and massage, oral treatment technology, health accounting statistics, and traditional Chinese medicine orthopedics. Among them, seven majors, including clinical medicine, nursing, midwifery, stomatology, traditional Chinese medicine, pharmacy and medical laboratory technology, are provincial key majors.
