Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology was founded in 1956 as Baotou Iron and Steel Industry School and Baotou Architectural Engineering School under the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. 1958 The two universities merged to form Baotou Institute of Technology, 1960 was renamed Baotou Institute of Iron and Steel, and 1998 was placed under the management of Inner Mongolia. It is not necessarily a bad thing to be placed under local management. In 2000, Inner Mongolia Coal Industry School merged. In 2003, Baotou Institute of Iron and Steel, baotou teachers college and Baotou Medical College jointly established Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology.

The discipline development of Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology started very early. 1986 co-trained postgraduate students, and became a master's degree awarding unit in 199 1 year, and a doctoral degree awarding unit in 20 13 year. 20 16 passed the examination and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education, and 20 17 was approved by the Ministry of Education as a newly-built university with postgraduate exemption qualification.
