Kashgar University is a multi-ethnic, multi-disciplinary and multi-form comprehensive application-oriented modern university. It is the only normal university in southern Xinjiang, an engineering university for basic ability training among universities in central and western China, and the westernmost university in China. The predecessor of the school is Xinjiang Kashgar Teachers College, which was founded in 1962. 1August, 978, the school was upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed Kashgar Teachers College. In June, 2003, after being examined by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, the college obtained the qualification of authorized unit for master's degree and began to undertake the task of cultivating master's degree students.
