Hainan Normal University (HNNU) is a multi-disciplinary provincial key normal university focusing on teacher education, located in Haikou, a beautiful coastal tourist city and a national historical and cultural city. The school's predecessor was the National Hainan Normal University, which was founded in the autumn of 1949.

In 2008, the school was listed as a key construction university in Hainan Province by the Hainan Provincial People's Government. In the autumn of the same year, the Faculty of Arts, the School of Information Technology, the School of Foreign Languages and the School of Economics and Management settled in Guilin Foreign Studies University Town, Haikou City.
