QUST was founded in 1950, and has three campuses, namely Laoshan Campus, Sifang Campus and Gaomi Campus. It has 25,000 full-time students, of whom 2,500 are graduate students or doctoral students. Queensland University of Science and Technology has the right to award bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees, and also has the right to recommend graduate students who are exempt from examinations. At present, there are 7 doctoral programs, 4 postdoctoral research stations, 5 master's programs, 49 postgraduate programs, 60 undergraduate programs, 1 national key laboratory (authorized construction), 1 national engineering technology research center, 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 1 engineering technology research center of the Ministry of Education,1. In the past three years, the school has won the National 863 Plan, the National 973 Plan, the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Key Scientific Breakthrough and other projects 136; 285 temporary, ministerial and civic subjects; 3 10 enterprise project. For more than ten years, QUST has won 14 national technological invention awards and national scientific and technological progress awards. In the ranking of China University's scientific and technological contribution in 2007, China University's technological innovation contribution in 2007 and 1979-2006 China University's national major technological inventions, QUST ranked 39th, 27th and 22nd among all China universities respectively. According to the data released by China Institute of Science and Technology Information of the Ministry of Science and Technology, in 2007, 248 papers in QUST were included in SCI, ranking 58th, and 137 papers were included in EI, ranking 76th. The school was rated as an advanced unit in the transformation of scientific research achievements in Qingdao and an outstanding contribution unit in Industry-University-Research, Shandong Province, creating a widely acclaimed "school phenomenon".

In recent years, QUST has carried out cooperation at different levels and in different fields with universities in 60 countries including Germany, South Korea, the United States, Canada, Russia and France. Sino-German technical cooperation? The Sino-German Institute of Technology, founded by University of Science and Technology Beijing and the University of Paderborn in Germany, has been included in the cooperation project between the German and Chinese governments and is regarded as a model of cooperative education. Actively develop cooperation with international companies such as BASF, Bayer, Volkswagen and Degussa, and set up research funds, joint laboratories, graduate stations, university students' entrepreneurship centers and international engineer training centers.
