There are four colleges under the school, 16 department. In the official survey, the University of Essex has always been in the top 10 in the ranking of RAE(Research Assessment Exercise) in the UK due to its outstanding achievements in the research field. The extended information school has modern accommodation specially provided for students, and 88% of the students are on campus. As long as international students apply before the deadline, they will be guaranteed to have school dormitories during their studies. Students come from 120 countries in the world. The main campus of the school is actually a university town, so there are not only teaching buildings and student dormitories, but also shops, banks, an art gallery, a lakeside theater, bars, cafes and sports facilities. The campus is located on more than 200 acres of green land, most of which were built in the18th century, with a safe and beautiful environment. The main campus is only two miles from Colchester, the oldest recorded town in Britain and the first capital of Britain. It's less than an hour from Colchester to London by train. The transportation from here to london stansted airport and Harwich Port is very convenient. Lavton's "East 15" Academy of Performing Arts is not in the main campus, but closer to London. The college has built a new urban campus in Southend.
