The School of Foreign Languages and Culture of China Communication University was formerly known as the Foreign Languages Department, one of the three departments of Beijing Broadcasting Institute. In 1950s and 1960s, the Department of Foreign Languages opened 23 foreign language majors. 1999 the school of international communication was established on the basis of the foreign languages department. In 2008, the school decided to set up a Foreign Languages Institute on the basis of the former Institute of International Communication, and 20 18 College was renamed the Institute of Foreign Languages and Cultures.
