Public courses are free of charge for the whole school, usually at the end of a semester or in the first week of school. Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education. On May 26th, 2000, it was formed by the merger of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji Medical University and Wuhan Institute of Urban Construction. It is one of the national key construction universities of "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project", and it is the first batch of "double first-class" construction universities.
