Personal profile

Ge (1929-1995), a native of Nantong, Jiangsu, was a famous entomologist and agricultural educator in modern China. 1born on May 20th, 929, graduated from the Department of Agronomy, Nantong Agricultural College, Jiangsu Province 195 1. I have been engaged in higher agricultural education since graduation. He has served as a teaching assistant of Nantong Agricultural College and Subei Agricultural College, and a lecturer, associate professor and professor of Anhui Agricultural University. He made contributions to the investigation and study of vegetable and fruit tree pests in Anhui Province, and published the Catalogue of Agricultural and Forestry Pests in Anhui Province for the first time. He has a deep understanding of broad bean elephant, scarab, hemp elephant and black-edged moth.

Ge, 1929, was born in a peasant family in the suburb of Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. He was talented and studious since he was a child, and he won the prize of Excellence in primary and secondary school learning and conduct every year. My father died before I graduated from high school, and my family was in trouble. He had to go to Nantong College to study agriculture and complete his studies with scholarships and work-study programs. During his school days, he founded a middle school in partnership with his classmates.

Attend night classes. As a principal, he has done well in the accounting class at night school and won social recognition and reputation. 195 1 year, Ge graduated with honors from the pest and disease group of the Agricultural Department of Nantong College. That year, he took part in the joint entrance examination for researchers of the Institute of Insects of China Academy of Sciences and was admitted with excellent results. However, because the Ministry of Education emphasized unified distribution, he returned to Nantong College to teach. 1952 department adjustment, he merged with the school to work in Subei Agricultural College. From 65438 to 0954, Ge was transferred to the Agricultural College of Anhui University. He has been teaching in Anhui Agricultural College since its independent establishment. For decades, Ge has never relaxed his teaching and research. He was promoted to associate professor in 1979 and professor in 198 1 year. He used to be director of the teaching and research section, deputy director of the department and head of the department.

From 65438 to 0955, Ge was seconded by the Institute of Entomology, China Academy of Sciences to participate in the Sino-Soviet biological investigation group to investigate lac insects in Yunnan, which laid the foundation for the development of lac production in China.

Ge has participated in many international academic conferences, such as 1982 in London, 1984 17 international congress on entomology, 18 18 international congress on entomology. Ge used to be a director of the Chinese Entomological Society, a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Zoological Society, the chairman of the Anhui Entomological Society and the director of the Department of Plant Protection of Anhui Agricultural University. He has been the editorial board member of Insect Magazine, Insect Taxonomy Magazine and East China Insect Magazine for a long time, and the editor-in-chief of Anhui Plant Protection and Anhui Insects. /kloc-0 died in Hefei on September 26th, 995 due to recurrent cerebral hemorrhage.

Erudition and academic contribution

I. Complete "China Economic Insect Cicadellidae"

From 65438 to 0956, under the guidance of Zhu Hongfu, Ge began to study the classification of leafhoppers. He often dissects and identifies specimens in the evening and goes out to collect them every summer vacation. After more than three years of hard work and struggle, he finally completed the China classic.

The first draft of the book Cicadellidae. The book was published in 1966, providing basic information for teaching, scientific research and production. Secondly, the classification of rice planthoppers was studied, and the identification areas of three kinds of brown planthoppers were solved.

In the early 1970s, Nilaparvata lugens broke out and caused serious harm. Ge focused on the classification of rice planthoppers, solved the identification of three kinds of brown planthoppers, and wrote the article "Identification of Common Rice Planthopper Species under Trap Lamps". This paper has a guiding role in the work of forecasting stations, is urgently needed information, and greatly promotes the study of wintering migration and prevention measures.

Three, cooperate to complete the "China Economic Insects, Volume 27".

From 65438 to 0984, Ge cooperated with Nanjing Agricultural University to compile the book Economic Insects of China, Volume 27, Insecticidae. In the whole research process, Ge also undertook the task of identifying specimens for relevant units in various provinces and cities. This work is very heavy, with an average of more than 20 emails received every day, and some of them are still completed within the time limit. During this period, Ge Linzhong suffered from hypertension, gallstones and other diseases, and his health was poor. In spite of his illness, he often works. Without an assistant, he dissected the insects of leafhoppers and planthoppers under a microscope all day. Over the years, * * * has identified more than 100 specimens for more than 100 units and never asked for any remuneration.

Fourth, complete "China Zoology Cicada".

Combined with specimen identification, Ge participated in the Cicadellidae part of four monographs, including Insects in Tibet, edited by Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In addition, he also participated in the compilation of local chronicles, such as Insects in Yunnan Forest and Diseases and Cordyceps in Tibet. When 199 1 left hemiplegia sequelae due to overwork and stroke, he still insisted on finishing the book Insects in Wuyishan and began to write the book Zoology of China-Cicada. This spirit of persistent pursuit and dedication to the insect cause is admirable.

personal influence

Yang-winged moth: Under the guidance of You Qiwei, Ge studied three kinds of pests, namely broad bean weevil, horned moth and black-winged moth.

Ge devoted his whole life to the study of entomology and was carefully taught by You Qiwei and Zhu Hongfu.

In college, Professor You Qiwei's General Entomology aroused Ge's great interest, and the Insect Fun Fair he organized promoted his growth and progress. You Qiwei also arranged his library and some instruments and equipment into the study room and laboratory of the Insect Fun Fair to encourage people to study insects. Ge Linzhong makes full use of these advantages and studies late into the night every night. He read a lot of books and made a lot of notes, which broadened his knowledge. At the same time, under the guidance of You Qiwei, three pests, namely broad bean, Lepidoptera stenophylla (loquat pest) and Buxus macrophylla (Buxus microphylla pest), were studied. In more than two years, Ge finished his thesis and published it in the Journal of Entomology, thus cultivating his excellent quality as a scientific and technological worker.

From 65438 to 0954, when Ge was transferred to work in Anhui, it was the time when Anhui Agricultural College was established independently. As soon as he arrived at the college, he took the post of director of plant protection education research office and shouldered the heavy responsibility of establishing plant protection specialty. At the same time, he also offered insect courses for agriculture, forestry, tea, sericulture and gardening.

At the beginning of his work, Ge Linzhong carried out scientific research activities in combination with teaching. On the basis of a large number of investigations, data collection and specimen identification, the Catalogue of Agricultural and Forestry Pests in Anhui Province was compiled and published for the first time. According to the needs of the course of fruit and vegetable pests in Horticulture Department, the species of fruit and vegetable pests in Hefei were systematically investigated. The results show that there are 280 kinds of fruit tree pests and 0/05 kinds of vegetable pests in Hefei. The growth and decline law and harmful habits of these pests are understood, and the control methods are put forward. This is the earliest and relatively complete record of pests on fruit trees and vegetables in Anhui Province. He also translated and published the book "Tea Garden Pests in the Soviet Union" according to the needs of teaching tea pests.

From 65438 to 0956, Zhu Hongfu analyzed the situation and demand of the discipline at that time, and combined with Ge's work and school situation, he proposed that insect taxonomy should be the research direction to carry out the classification research of leafhoppers. Under the guidance of Zhu Hongfu, Ge compiled the book Cicadellidae, the tenth volume of Economic Insects in China, in just over three years.

Ge Linzhong has achieved good results in teaching, which has aroused many students' interest in entomology. All the graduate students he trained obtained degrees with excellent results.
