North China Electric Power University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, and also a national key construction university of "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Engineering Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform".

It is a national "double-first-class" construction university (focusing on energy and electric power science and engineering disciplines), and a national key university jointly established by the board of directors of State Grid Corporation, China Electric Power Enterprise Federation and other 12 super-large power groups and the Ministry of Education.

It is one of the first units in China to obtain postgraduate training and degree-granting rights.
