The school can be traced back to the provincial Guangxi University founded by 1928 and the Guangxi Provincial Teachers College founded by 1932. Provincial Teachers College 1936 merged, 1939 was renamed as National Guangxi University, 194 1 rebuilt Guilin Teachers College.

1943 was promoted to National Guilin Teachers College. 1950 merged into Guangxi University again. 1953, the former Guangxi University was closed, and Guangxi Normal University was established on the basis of some teachers and all students of teachers' professional courses in its cultural and educational colleges and science colleges. 1983 was renamed Guangxi Normal University.

As of June 2023, the school has three campuses, namely Wangcheng, Yucai and Yanshan, with a campus area of 4 100 mu, with a collection of 3,779,300 paper books and 2,673,800 electronic books. There are 2 1 teaching colleges (departments) and 75 undergraduate majors.
