Chongqing University (CQU) is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, which is jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Chongqing Municipality and the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It has been selected into the national "World-class University Construction (Class A)", "21Project", "985 Project", "201Plan" and "Excellent Engineer Education" successively.

Chongqing University was founded by Liu Xiang in 1929. 1935 was approved as a provincial university. 1942 was renamed as National Chongqing University. From 65438 to 0942, the school became a comprehensive university with all disciplines such as literature, science, business and forensic medicine. After the adjustment from 65438 to 0952 in China, the school became a multidisciplinary university directly under the Ministry of Higher Education, focusing on engineering. 1960 was identified as a national key university. 1996 became the national "2 1 1 project" key construction university, and 1999 was included in the national "985 project" key construction university. In May 2000, the former chongqing jianzhu university and Chongqing Architecture Colleges merged with Chongqing University to form a new Chongqing University.
