The earliest schools can be traced back to the provincial Guangxi University founded by 1928 and the Guangxi Provincial Teachers College founded by 1932. The provincial teachers' college was merged 1936, and Guilin teachers' college was rebuilt 194 1, 1943 was upgraded to national Guilin teachers' college. 1950 merged into Guangxi University again. 1953, the former Guangxi University was closed, and Guangxi Normal University was established on the basis of some teachers and all students of teachers' professional courses in its cultural and educational colleges and science colleges. 1983 was renamed Guangxi Normal University.

Wangcheng Campus of Guangxi Normal University (Jingjiang Wangcheng) is the main part of Duxiufeng Wangcheng Scenic Area, a national 5A-level tourist attraction. Jingjiang Wang Fu is the longest and best-preserved Ming Dynasty royal residence in China. This is the Palace Garden in Guangxi in the Qing Dynasty, and later became the Wangcheng Campus of Guangxi Normal University, which condensed the history and culture of Guilin for hundreds of years from the early Ming Dynasty to the present.
