Kunming University of Science and Technology, located in Kunming, Yunnan Province, is a key university jointly established by the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Yunnan Province. It has been selected into the national "11plan", the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" and the "Basic Capacity Building Project of Central and Western Universities".

The school was formed by the merger of Kunming University of Science and Technology and Yunnan University of Technology on 1999. Kunming University of Science and Technology was founded in 1954 and renamed Kunming University of Science and Technology in 1995. Yunnan University of Technology was founded in 1974 as Yunnan Institute of Technology, and 1994 was renamed Yunnan University of Technology. The historical starting point can be traced back to the second year of Xuantong in Qing Dynasty (19 10).

School construction
