The junior class of the University of Science and Technology of China recruits young people who have not completed formal secondary education but have excellent grades to receive university education. Its appearance has certain historical contingency, but it is a great innovation in the history of education in China and an educational practice of great significance. At the beginning of the juvenile class, the Chinese University of Science and Technology devoted itself to exploring ways to cultivate these special college students. The outstanding performance of the students in the previous junior classes has strengthened the determination of the Chinese University of Science and Technology to continue to run the junior classes well. In 2008, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Juvenile Class, the University of Science and Technology of China upgraded the former Juvenile Class Management Committee (department-level organizational system) to the Juvenile Class College.
