The PLA Army Medical University is located in Chongqing, a municipality directly under the Central Government. It is a military medical university with glorious history and distinctive military characteristics. It is the first batch of national key universities after the founding of New China. It is also one of the key construction institutions of the "2 1 10 Project" of the army, and is a pilot university of the "Excellent Doctoral Education and Training Plan".

The PLA Naval Medical University in Shanghai is a key construction institution of the national "2 1 1 Project", the military "2 1 10 Project", the former General Logistics Department "530 Project", the first batch of national "world-class discipline construction universities", the first batch of military postgraduate training key construction institutions and the first batch of medicine. It is one of the three military units that set up graduate schools, the first batch of doctoral and master's degree awarding units in China, and the first batch of universities that offer eight-year medical education. It has been selected into the "Excellent Doctoral Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, the National Postgraduate Program for Building High-level Universities, the National Training Base for Life Science and Technology Talents, and the Training Base for Foreign Military Medical Students.
