Hunan Province governs prefecture-level cities, and Loudi City is located in the geographic center of Hunan Province, which governs Louxing District, Lianyuan City, Lengshuijiang City, Xinhua County, Shuangfeng County, Loudi Economic Development Zone and Wanbao New District of Loudi Water-rich Demonstration Zone. The east-west width of the city is160km, and the north-south length is102km. Loudi is dominated by Han people, and there are also Miao, Tujia, Dong and Hui ethnic minorities.
Loudi city is located in the northwest of the hills in central Hunan, on the eastern edge of the mountainous area in western Hunan. The terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. Xuefeng Mountain inclines to the northwest, the rest of Hengshan Mountain meanders to the southeast boundary, and Longshan Mountain occupies the south. The elevation of Jiulongchi on the west side of Xiongshan Mountain in Xinhua County is1622m, which is the highest peak in China. Lianshui flows eastward into Xiangjiang River, while Zishui flows northward into Dongting Lake. It belongs to the subtropical monsoon humid climate. Minerals include coal, antimony and manganese. The tin mine in Lengshuijiang City is known as "Antimony Capital of the World".
