North Sichuan Medical College formally reported to the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education the request of North Sichuan Medical College to include the renamed medical university in the Tenth Five-Year Plan of Sichuan Province, and initially determined the name of the renamed medical university as "North Sichuan Medical University".

The leaders of North Sichuan Medical College presided over a symposium on the preparation of the "14th Five-Year Plan" for campus construction, and mentioned that the "14th Five-Year Plan" was a crucial period for the school to be renamed as a medical university and to establish a doctoral degree awarding point.
