Extended data:
As school flowers, Bauhinia and Lilac have been written into the articles of association of Tsinghua University together with the school emblem, school flag, school song and school color, but as one of the school flowers, Lilac is far less well known than Bauhinia. However, as early as the 20th anniversary of its establishment, lilacs captured the hearts of many students in Tsinghua.
In the 9th issue of Tsinghua Alumni Newsletter published by 1984, Tao, a 34th-grade alumnus, suggested for the article, which mentioned: "Tsinghua campus is extremely beautiful in spring, with flowers everywhere, with bauhinia and lilac blooming the most. Therefore, it has long been suggested that bauhinia or lilac should be the school flower.
In the spring of 193 1, the school anniversary is coming. Senior Xia suggested using lilacs as school flowers: lilacs are purple white, the blooming season is the school anniversary, and lilacs are blooming in clusters, which symbolizes that Tsinghua students get along well and are fragrant. It can be seen that there was a proposal to use lilacs as school flowers as early as the 1930s.
