North university of china is not a 2 1 1 engineering university, nor is it a 985 engineering university. According to north university of china official website, north university of china is located in Taiyuan. It is a multidisciplinary teaching and research university jointly established by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Shanxi Provincial People's Government and the National Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and managed by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government. The school has been selected into the national college students' cultural quality education base, the excellent engineer education and training plan of the Ministry of Education and the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions. North university of china's predecessor was 194 1 the Taihang Industrial School founded by the Eighth Route Army General Command in Taihang Anti-Japanese Base Area. 1949, the school moved to Xueyuan Road, Taiyuan City and changed its name to Ordnance Vocational School. 1978, the school was transformed into Taiyuan Institute of Mechanical Engineering. 1993, the school was renamed North China Institute of Technology. In June 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed north university of china.
