Self-taught higher education examination, referred to as self-taught examination, was established with the approval of 198 1 the State Council. It is a national higher education examination for self-learners, a form of higher education combining individual self-study, social assistance and national examination, and an important part of China's socialist higher education system. It is to promote a wide range of individual self-study and social assistance activities through national examinations, implement the relevant provisions of the Constitution to encourage self-study, train and select professionals with both ability and political integrity, and improve the ideological and moral quality and scientific and cultural quality of the whole nation to meet the needs of socialist modernization.

Self-study examination is dual: it is not only a national examination system, but also a new form of education. As a national examination system, it is formulated by the state, and government examination institutions exercise examination rights on behalf of the state. In accordance with the goals and standards set by the state, strict national examinations are carried out for all self-taught candidates, which is a nationally recognized academic qualification. Compared with the unified examination, the self-taught examination is not necessarily easier than the unified examination, on the contrary, it will be more strict. Most self-taught students study while working. They can combine their own work and choose their major completely freely, because they know what they lack, and their social adaptability and practical experience far exceed that of the unified enrollment.

Self-taught examination has the same effect as unified recruitment of undergraduate students in employment. While obtaining the undergraduate certificate, we also need to improve our employment skills and enhance our employment competitiveness.
