The Department of Physical Education of China Ocean University was renamed from the former Department of Physical Education in June 2004. To undertake postgraduate teaching of physical education and training, undergraduate teaching of sports training and public physical education class teaching for college students; Undertake the guidance of students' extracurricular sports activities and the training of high-level sports teams such as sailing, track and field, volleyball and basketball.

The Department of Physical Education has two basic laboratories, two standard track and field fields, two gymnasiums (1 under construction), 1 swimming pool (under construction) and several comprehensive venues.

The department has more than 30 faculty members, including 6 professors and 0 associate professors 10, and has a group of outstanding young and middle-aged academic backbones. Teachers have a strong sense of scientific research and have made remarkable achievements. From 2007 to 2009, nearly 60 papers were published in different journals, and more than 20 national patents were obtained. He undertook more than 10 projects at all levels and edited more than 10 textbooks. Each project team has achieved many excellent results in international, national, provincial and municipal competitions and won honors for the country and the school.
