The school was formerly an agricultural cadre school founded by the Central Northeast Bureau 1948 in Heilongjiang Province. 1950 was upgraded to Heilongjiang Agricultural College, 1956 was upgraded to Bei 'an Agricultural College, and four-year undergraduate education began.

From 65438 to 0958, Bei 'an Agricultural College, Changchun Animal Husbandry and Veterinary College and the preparatory office of Changchun Agricultural College merged to form Changchun Agricultural College, and Premier Zhou Enlai personally wrote the name of the school. 1959, the school was renamed Jilin Agricultural University.
