Guilin University of Technology is a university funded by the central and local governments and mainly managed by Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The school originated from Guilin Geological School, which was established by the former Guangxi Ministry of Heavy Industry 1956. After five changes of ownership and ten changes of school name, 1978 was renamed Guilin Institute of Metallurgical Geology, 1993 was renamed Guilin University of Technology, and in 2009 it was renamed Guilin University of Technology.
