China Renmin University is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipality, focusing on humanities and social sciences.

The school's predecessor was Northern Shaanxi Public School, which was born in the bonfire of 1937 War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, followed by North China United University and North China University. 1949 12 16 the 11th government meeting of the central people's government in the State Council adopted a decision on the establishment of China Renmin university on the proposal of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee.

From 1950 to now, the state has established key universities, among which China Renmin University ranks. At present, the school is one of the national "985 Project" and "2 1 1 Project" key universities.
