Xinjiang Agricultural University is not a 985 university or a 2 1 1 university. Xinjiang Agricultural University is a key agricultural university in the autonomous region. It is a university jointly established by the State Forestry Administration and the people's government of the autonomous region. It was selected into the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions, the national graduate program of building high-level universities, and the national "key discipline project with characteristics".

Formerly known as Xinjiang Bayi Agricultural Reclamation College, the school is located in Urumqi.
