Introduction to Northwest University for Nationalities Northwest University for Nationalities is the first institution of higher learning for nationalities founded after the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), which is under the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. The school was founded by the First Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Lanzhou on September 1949. 1In June, 1950, it was transformed into the third department of Northwest People's Revolutionary University Lanzhou Branch.1In August, 1950, Northwest University for Nationalities was formally established.
