The college originated from the training course for cadres of the Public Security Department of Hubei Provincial People's Government and was founded in June 1949. Later, it was upgraded to Hubei Provincial Public Security College in April 1984 to carry out higher education, including Hubei Provincial People's Government Public Security School, Wuhan Branch of Central People's Public Security College, Second Central Police Cadre School, Hubei Provincial Public Security School and Hubei Provincial People's Police School. On June 1993, the name of the school was changed to Hubei Public Security College. In March 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed Hubei Police Officer College.
