Public schools are owned and managed by the government, while non-public schools or private schools are owned and managed by private individuals. Generally speaking, private schools are run by churches. Some private schools belong to the network of some churches, such as Catholicism, while others belong to independent institutions.

In most schools, international students account for only a small part of all students, but some schools are almost all international students.

Thirteen years of school education

Education in Australia has a 13-year academic system, with kindergarten or preparatory classes starting at the age of 5, followed by 12-year primary and secondary school courses. Middle schools in some states start in the seventh year, but high schools in Queensland, Western Australia, Northern China and South Australia start in the eighth year.

After completing the twelfth year, students will graduate from high school and receive certificates issued by the state government. High school education can be recognized by all universities in Australia.

After completing 12 years of high school education in Australia, students can choose a variety of different ways to continue their studies or receive vocational training. Students can continue to study in universities, vocational and technical colleges (TAFE), business schools or other vocational training institutions.

The school year is similar to that of previous years. It starts in January and ends in mid-December. It lasts about 40 weeks and is divided into four semesters. There are short holidays between semesters and long holidays from 1 February to1month.

Most primary and secondary schools in Australia are day schools. Students go to school during the day and go home after school. There are also boarding schools, mostly private schools. Generally, schools will assist international students to arrange accommodation with some local families in Australia.

The school has classes five days a week, from Monday to Friday. The daily class time varies slightly according to their schools, but it is usually from 9 am to 3: 30 pm.
