North university of china is a multidisciplinary teaching and research university jointly established by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Shanxi Provincial People's Government and the National Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and managed by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government. Selected by the Ministry of Education, "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" and "Basic Capacity Building Project of Central and Western Universities". The school is located in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. At present, Shen Xingquan, secretary of the Party Committee of the school, and Xiong, president of the school, all have the motto of "knowing and doing in one".

As of February 2022, the school covers an area of 2,995 mu, with a building area of 1.23 million square meters and 2,727 faculty members. The school has graduate schools, 23 colleges, 6 post-doctoral mobile stations, 7 first-level disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees, 24 doctoral programs, 25 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degrees and 65 master's degree authorization points. Master's degree authorization points involve 13 categories, 28 fields and 85 undergraduate majors.

The school's predecessor was Taihang Industrial School, which was the first ordnance school of our party and army founded by the Eighth Route Army General Command in Taihang Anti-Japanese Base Area in 194 1. Known as the "First School of People's Ordnance", it has gone through Taiyuan Institute of Machinery and North China Institute of Technology.
