Wuhan University of Technology (WIT), located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, is a multi-disciplinary teaching and research university focusing on engineering, science, management, economics, literature, law, arts, medicine and education. It is a key construction university in Hubei Province, a first-class discipline construction university in Hubei Province, and has been selected into the education and training plan for outstanding engineers and the foundation of universities in the central and western regions.

The school was founded in June, 1972, formerly known as Hubei Institute of Chemical Technology and Petroleum, under the Hubei Provincial People's Government. 1980 was renamed Wuhan institute of chemical technology in March, and was replaced by the former head of the chemical industry department. 1July, 1998, the school was placed under the management of Hubei Provincial People's Government, and was jointly funded by the central and local governments. In February 2006, it was renamed Wuhan University of Technology.
