And Southwest University of Science and Technology for short is a university jointly established by Sichuan Provincial People's Government and Ministry of Education, and by Sichuan Provincial People's Government and National Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It is one of the key universities in western China 14 established by the Ministry of Education, and also one of the designated universities for comprehensive innovation and reform in Sichuan Province.

The school is located in Mianyang City. The current principal is Huang Qi, and the party secretary is Dong Faqin. The school motto is "Morality, Broadness, Persistence and Innovation". As of September 2022, the school campus covers an area of 5,463 mu, with a building area of1190,000 square meters. It has headquarters, Xishan and Chengnan campuses, 16 colleges and 9 major disciplines, 83 undergraduate majors, 5 first-class doctoral degree authorization points, and 18 second-class doctoral degree authorization points. There are 88 master's degree authorization points in two disciplines, 15 master's degree categories, 1 post-doctoral research mobile station, 1 national key laboratory jointly established by provincial offices, 1 national university science park, 1 collaborative innovation center jointly established by provincial offices, with more than 2,690 faculty members.

Southwest University of Science and Technology originated from Chongqing No.1 Civil Engineering School founded by 1952 and Chongqing Civil Engineering School formed by the merger of the two schools. The school has run schools in Chongqing, Shimian and Mianyang. 1978, Sichuan Institute of Building Materials Technology moved to the former Mianyang Branch of Tsinghua University, and some employees and school-running resources of Mianyang Branch of Tsinghua University were merged into the college. 1993 was renamed Southwest Institute of Technology. In 2000, the former Southwest Institute of Technology and Mianyang Institute of Economics and Technology merged to form Southwest University of Science and Technology.
