Wuhan University, located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, is a comprehensive national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It ranks among the national "double first-class", "985 Project" and "21project" construction universities, and is selected as "Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education", "National Basic Science Research and Talent Training Base" and "National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center".
Wuhan University dates back to the self-improvement school founded by 1893. 1928 was named National Wuhan University, 1949 was renamed Wuhan University, and 1960 was identified as a national key comprehensive university. In 2000, Wuhan University merged with Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping and Hubei Medical University to form a new Wuhan University, 200 1, which was identified as the key construction university of the "985 Project".
