"Initiatives d 'Excellence" (IDEX) and "Science, Innovation, Regional and Economic Plan" (I-SITE) are large-scale higher education reform plans launched by the French government since 20 10, aiming at establishing world-class higher education research institutions.

By 2020, six of the 1 1 institutions will obtain the permanent qualification of "IDEX": Paris University of Arts and Sciences. University of Thackeray in Paris, University of Strasbourg, University of Bordeaux, University of Aix-Marseille, Sorbonne University. In addition, five universities have obtained the probation qualification of excellent universities: Paris University, Grenoble University, Cote d 'Azur University, Lyon University and Toulouse University.

Nine universities have obtained the qualification of "Science, Innovation, Regional and Economic Planning" (I-SITE): Paris XII, Clermont-Owen University, Lorraine University, Lille University, Beauvoir University, Montpellier University, Nantes University, Sergey-Pontoise University, and Burgundy-Franche Conte University.

First stage

20 10 future investment plan * * * 7.7 billion euros has been invested in the excellent plan, which has become the most pointed out part of the investment plan. All the proposed schools will be audited by an international Committee before obtaining loans.

The second stage?

After the French presidential election in 20 12, many trade unions proposed to stop this investment plan because they thought it would destroy the public service function of higher education and cause regional inequality.
