Northwest University Law School offers many different degrees and professional courses, including Doctor of Basic Law (JD), Master of Law (LLM) and MSL. In addition, Northwest Law School also offers visiting programs, exchange programs, executive courses and vocational education courses. Students can gain practical experience and skills through many auxiliary course activities and extracurricular activities. If you have a bachelor's degree in law from an American or domestic university, you can apply for a degree course from Northwest University.
1. Doctor of Law
The doctor of law of Northwest Law School can make graduates better adapt to the changing environment and meet the challenges facing the world, which is incomparable to any other law school. In the first year, I concentrated on studying legal reasoning, analysis and writing, laying a solid foundation and having a profound and comprehensive understanding of legal structure and policies. The first-year course consists of 22 credits for compulsory courses and 6 credits for elective courses.
Compulsory courses: civil litigation, communication and legal reasoning (1 and 2), constitution, contract, criminal law, property and tort.
Elective courses: in the second semester of the first year, students have the opportunity to study two courses in senior three, laying the foundation for further study in the next academic year.
At the end of the first year of study, the remaining compulsory courses are only legal theory study. All other courses are optional. Generally speaking, after the first year, you should take 14- 16 credits every semester. In addition, students must complete high-level writing requirements in the second or third year. This requirement can be accomplished by at least four hours of supervised advanced research, or by attending research writing courses and professional writing courses.
Recommended elective courses and basic courses:
Administrative law, federal income tax basis, chamber of commerce, civil litigation II, comparative law, constitutional criminal litigation, conflict of laws, real estate and trust, evidence, federal justice, first amendment, fourth amendment, international law, legislation, legal relief, secured transactions.
Graduation requirements
Complete 85 credits. The cumulative GPA is not less than 2.25, or 2.0-two thirds of the scores are C+ or above. Get compulsory course credits and six experiential learning credits. Complete advanced writing requirements in the second or third year.
2. Joint Degree of Doctor of Law and Master of Business Administration.
This degree is jointly offered by Kellogg School of Management and Law School of Northwest University, which gives students the opportunity to study management and law at the same time. JD-MBA degree integrates academic foundation, analytical ability and practical experience, which helps students succeed in law or business. It only takes three years to complete this degree-five years to study two degrees alone. Within three years, you can get a doctor of law awarded by law school and an MBA awarded by a management degree. This course will help students grow up on the established road, hoping that they will become business elites with legal knowledge or legal practitioners with management ability after graduation.
Curriculum structure
I entered school in autumn and studied in law school (Chicago campus) for the first year. In the first summer and the second year, I studied at the School of Management (Evanston Campus). Internship in a law firm or enterprise in the summer of the following year. In the last year, I went back to law school, and at the same time, I could take courses at the School of Management. Joint degree students take the same courses as MBA students and doctoral students in law. In addition, the joint degree also provides many experiential learning opportunities to ensure that students apply what they have learned in class to practical situations. Through the Donald Pritzker Entrepreneurship Law Center of Northwest University and other places, students can provide legal and strategic advice to small businesses. Through the global laboratory, we can help deal with the major problems faced by international organizations. Through the risk laboratory, we can find jobs in venture funds or incubators.
3. Joint Degree of Doctor of Laws and Master of Laws-Master of Laws
By participating in the JD-LLM joint degree program, students can obtain doctor of law and master of law in succession. Even if this joint degree can't meet the requirements of Master of Laws in Tax Law, students will have the opportunity to study the four basic areas of modern tax law in the fall semester of the third year of law school. This comprehensive degree course provides students with the necessary knowledge needed for tax law practice.
The JD-LLM joint degree is open to students of Northwest University College and other law school students who have obtained ABA certification. Through this program, students can get both Doctor of Law and Master of Law credits (14 credits) and get two degrees in six or seven semesters. Non-Northwest University doctor of law, doctor of law awarded by the school, master of tax law awarded by Northwest University.
Admission requirements
Northwest University doctor of law can apply for this joint degree when applying for doctor of law, or apply for another degree in the first or second year. Students studying this joint degree must complete 24 credits required by the Master of Law in addition to the requirements of the Doctor of Law. Tax law course 14 credits can be used for doctor of law degree. Students must obtain at least 65,438+00 credits to meet the requirement of 85 credits for the doctorate in law, in addition to the master's degree in tax law.
