The Hubei Provincial People's Government and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission established the school and were selected as the first batch of excellent agricultural and forestry talents education and training programs and excellent doctor (Chinese medicine) education and training programs. 1938, Hubei Lianzhong Rural Normal School was established, and later changed to Hubei Seventh Normal School; 1950 changed its name to Enshi Normal School; Enshi Teachers College was established in1978; 1984 Approved by the former State Education Commission, the University of Western Hubei was established on the basis of Enshi Normal University; 1989 was renamed Hubei Institute for Nationalities.
