The College of Urban and Environmental Sciences of Northeast Normal University was founded in 1996, and its predecessor was the Department of Geography and the Department of Environmental Sciences. The Department of Geography was founded in 1949. It was originally a part of the Department of Historical Geography of Northeast Normal University, and it was also the earliest geographical department established by New China in the northeast base area. The Department of Environmental Science was established in 1986, and its predecessor was the Institute of Environmental Science of Northeast Normal University, which was established in 1978. It is one of the earliest bases for cultivating talents engaged in environmental science research, teaching and environmental protection in China universities. The geography department has three teaching and research sections: human geography, physical geography and geographic information system. The Department of Environmental Science has three teaching and research sections: environmental science, environmental ecology and environmental engineering. The college also includes Northeast Asia Institute of Geography, Institute of Environmental Science, Institute of Peat and Marsh, Urban Planning Research and Design Institute and other scientific research units. In 2002, the school established "China Northeast Research Institute of Northeast Normal University", which belongs to the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences. There are 29 professors, 24 associate professors and 5 senior engineers, including doctoral supervisor 18. In the past five years, * * * has undertaken 1 18 projects at or above the provincial level, including 2 major national projects. It has the right to award doctoral degrees in three disciplines: human geography, environmental science and regional economics, and has established a post-doctoral mobile station in the first-class discipline of geography, and has the right to award master's degrees in six disciplines: physical geography, human geography, map and geographic information system, environmental science, environmental engineering and regional economics. At present, there are five undergraduate majors: geographical science, resources and environment and urban and rural planning, ecology, environmental science and geographic information system.

First, the professional setting

1. Undergraduate major

Geographical science major is a normal major, which mainly trains geographical educators and geographical workers with certain scientific research ability. The major of resources, environment and urban and rural planning and management is a non-normal major, which mainly trains professional and technical personnel and government civil servants engaged in urban planning, land resources (land) management and regional planning.

Environmental science is a non-normal major, which mainly trains professional and technical personnel in the fields of environmental monitoring, environmental planning and management, environmental quality evaluation and environmental pollution control.

Ecology major is a non-normal major, which mainly trains professional and technical personnel in the fields of ecological monitoring and evaluation, ecological engineering and ecosystem restoration, biodiversity protection and urban ecological construction.

Geographic Information System (GIS) is a non-normal major, which mainly trains management and construction talents who apply digital technology to cities, transportation and communication, land, natural resources, environmental protection, monitoring and other fields.

2. Main program

Population, resources and environmental economics includes two research directions: resources and environmental economics, the relationship between man and land and sustainable development.

Regional economics includes four research directions: regional development and planning, regional economy and management, international regional economics and regional sustainable development.

Physical geography includes three research directions: land resources and planning management, wetland and environmental evolution, and resource and environmental information engineering.

Human geography includes four research directions: regional economic geography and regional development, urban geography and urban-rural planning, cultural geography and regional tourism development, economic and trade geography and logistics.

Cartography and geographic information system include three research directions: remote sensing information analysis, GIS theory and development, and thematic map compilation.

Urban planning and design includes three research directions: regional planning and urban master planning, small town planning and urban planning theory and method.

Environmental science includes three research directions: environmental chemistry, environmental biology and environmental geography.

Environmental engineering includes three research directions: air pollution control engineering, water pollution control engineering and ecological control engineering.

Land resource management includes three research directions: land resource management, land planning and land evaluation.

3. Doctoral major

Regional economics includes seven research directions: regional economic development, regional economic modernization, urban and regional integration research, regional scientific and technological innovation, regional economic coordinated development, regional economic development research, regional resource integration and sustainable development.

Physical geography includes three research directions: comprehensive physical geography, plant geography and wetland ecology.

Human geography includes four research directions: regional economic geography, human geography theory and method, urban geography theory and practice, regional economic geography and regional planning.

Cartography and GIS include the research direction of 1 spatial information integrated analysis model.

Environmental science includes eight research directions: environmental ecology, environmental planning and evaluation, conservation biology, ecotoxicology, environmental pollution chemistry, environmental analytical chemistry, low-temperature plasma and pollution control engineering, and radiation environmentology.

Second, the teaching staff.

College of Urban and Environmental Sciences has a strong faculty. There are currently faculty members 1 10 (including 80 professional teachers), including 29 professors (doctoral supervisors 18), 26 associate professors, 70% teachers with senior titles, 6 lecturers 16 and 9 teaching assistants. Among the teachers, there are 29 doctors, accounting for about 36%, and 36 masters, accounting for half of the total number of teachers. The College has hired two off-campus professors as "distinguished professor", one of whom is an academician of China Academy of Sciences.

Third, personnel training.

The College of Urban and Environmental Sciences has formed a distinctive school-running feature of serving basic education in the long-term running process. Firmly establish the "people-oriented" educational thought and create a harmonious humanistic environment for the healthy growth and success of students. In teaching, we should pay attention to the combination of general education and professional education, actively practice the training mode of "wide caliber, thick foundation, fine specialty and multiple outlets", build a flexible and diverse curriculum system, pay attention to optimizing the teaching process, and cultivate students' exploration spirit, innovative consciousness, practical ability, research ability and creativity.

In the past five years, the college has trained 249 doctoral and master students for middle schools, colleges and universities, scientific research institutions, government functional departments, enterprises and institutions, and 9 1 1 undergraduate graduates. In the first half of 2004, there were 9 doctoral students1,2 master students16 and 680 undergraduates.

Fourth, the characteristics and advantages of running a school

College of Urban and Environmental Sciences has a large number of young teachers, high academic level and reasonable teacher echelon structure. There are not only senior academicians, doctoral supervisors, but also highly educated young academic backbones, which have obvious interdisciplinary advantages in geography, environmentology, ecology and geographic information system. In recent years, he has undertaken 1 18 scientific research projects at or above the provincial and ministerial level, and published 869 papers in important academic journals. It has formed distinct research directions such as regional economic geography, urban geography and urban planning, wetland science and geographic information theory and technology. It has the national key laboratory of environmental protection and the advanced laboratory of regional development information system, and is rich in books and network resources, which has trained a large number of talents in regional economy, urban and rural planning and management, land resources and environmental monitoring and research for the country.

Verb (abbreviation of verb) laboratory construction

After years of construction and major scientific research projects, the teaching conditions in our college have been continuously improved. There are multimedia classrooms, physical geography (geology, biology, soil) laboratories, regional development information engineering laboratories, geographic information system laboratories, environmental science laboratories, ecological laboratories, environmental engineering laboratories and computer rooms. In 2002, with approval, the College established the State Key Laboratory of Wetland Ecology and Vegetation Restoration. There are more than 50,000 books in Chinese and foreign languages, 245 Chinese periodicals and 42 foreign periodicals in the college library. The website of the College and the website of Geographic Information Port are connected to the Internet through the campus network.
