There is only one national defense university in China.

National Defense Research Institute (NDU, PLA) is the highest military academy in China and the only advanced contract command academy in China. Directly under the leadership of the Central Military Commission, it is responsible for training the commanding cadres of the three armed forces, leading cadres at the local provincial level and leading cadres at or above the central state organs, engaging in research on strategy and national defense modernization, and playing an advisory role in the decision-making of the State Council, China, the Central Military Commission and the headquarters.
