Brief introduction of China University of Science and Technology

1958 On June 8th, Guo Moruo, President of China Academy of Sciences, presided over the first meeting of the school preparatory committee and decided to name the school "China University of Science and Technology". At the same time, the University Preparatory Committee was established, and the meeting adopted the school-building plan and the enrollment brochure of 1958, which made it clear that the teaching equipment should be in the charge of the relevant research institutes of the Academy of Sciences in principle.

The meeting decided to establish the 12 department, including nuclear physics and nuclear engineering, technical physics, chemical physics, physical thermal engineering, radio electronics, automation, mechanics and mechanical engineering, radiochemistry and radiochemistry, geochemistry and rare elements, polymer chemistry and polymer physics, applied mathematics and computer technology, and biophysics.

And establish contact and cooperation with Peking University and Tsinghua University.

On July 28th of the same year, the preparatory committee of the school held the first meeting of department heads, and decided to add the department of applied geophysics and set up four groups: general physics, general chemistry, mathematics and politics.

According to the instructions of Vice Premier Nie, the second part of the former Central Party School of Yuquan Road was given to China University of Science and Technology as the school site, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences and various scientific research institutes supported a large number of cadres, classrooms, workers, books and materials and experimental equipment.

On June 18, People's Daily, Guangming Daily and China Youth Daily published the admissions brochure of the University of Science and Technology of China.

At the beginning of September, 150 freshmen who registered in the Beijing test area reported in advance to participate in voluntary labor such as tidying up the campus and building a playground; 15 September, freshmen from outside Beijing went through the registration formalities, and the whole school enrolled 1634 students.

On the eve of the start of school, Guo Moruo drafted the lyrics of the school song and asked for comments to modify it. On September 19, Guo Moruo met all the students for the first time, and invited Lv Ji, chairman of the Chinese Music Association and composer of the school song, to teach the students the school song "Forever East Wind".
