Huazhong Agricultural University is not a 985 university, but a 2 1 1 university. The school's predecessor was Hubei Agricultural School founded by Zhang Zhidong, Governor of Huguang in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, on 1898. After several evolutions, from 65438 to 0952, Huazhong Agricultural College was established in all departments of Agricultural College of Wuhan University, Hubei Agricultural College and some departments of Agricultural College of six comprehensive universities such as Sun Yat-sen University. 1979, approved by the State Council as a national key university, directly under the Ministry of Agriculture. 1985, renamed Huazhong Agricultural University. In 2000, it was placed under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Education from the Ministry of Agriculture. In 2005, it entered the national "2 1 1 project" construction ranks. 20 17 was listed in the national "double first-class" construction ranks.

The campus is located in the main urban area of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, surrounded by Lion Mountain on three sides, with 5 square kilometers of landscape campus, 9 kilometers of romantic lakeside, 10 kilometers of "forest middle road" and 6.6 kilometers of lakeview greenway. At present, there are 17 colleges (departments), 63 undergraduate majors, 27 first-class disciplines authorized by master's degree, 16 first-class disciplines authorized by master's degree, 15 first-class disciplines authorized by doctor's degree, 4 categories authorized by doctor's degree, and 15 post-doctoral research stations. There are 32,046 full-time students, including undergraduates 19 178, 9499 master students, 2947 doctoral students and 422 international students.
