The school can be traced back to 1902, Shi Jing University. 1952 The Forestry Department of Beijing Agricultural University and the Forestry Department of Hebei Agricultural College merged to form Beijing Forestry College. 1956 The Department of Landscape Architecture of Beijing Agricultural University and the Department of Architecture of Tsinghua University were partially merged into the school. 1960 is listed as a national key institution of higher learning. 1985 was renamed Beijing Forestry University.
