Shanghai University, referred to as "Shangda" for short, is a comprehensive university under the "2 1 1 project" of Shanghai and the country, and has been included in the national postgraduate plan for building a high-level university.

1922, 10 year123 October, Shanghai University was founded on the basis of private Southeast Normal College, which was a revolutionary school and was forcibly closed by the Kuomintang authorities in 1927.

1983 Fudan University, Shanghai International Studies University, East China Normal University Instrument and Electronics Branch, Shanghai University of Science and Technology Branch, Shanghai Machinery Institute Light Industry Branch and Shanghai Fine Arts School merged to form Shanghai University. In April, 1993, Shanghai Law School was merged into Shanghai University.

1On May 27th, 994, Shanghai University for Science and Technology, Shanghai University and Shanghai Institute of Science and Technology merged to form a new Shanghai University. In April of 20001year, Jiading East Campus of Shanghai University was transformed into Shanghai Vocational College of Science and Technology.
