Hokkaido, formerly known as the next place, was once inhabited by Ainu people. /kloc-At the end of 0/6, Songqian crossed the sea to build a floating mountain city, covering an area. After the Russians went south, they explored Hokkaido, Kuril Islands, Sakhalin Island and other places for national defense needs, and soon Hokkaido became the direct jurisdiction of the shogunate.
1868 (the first year of Meiji), the new Meiji government decided to set up the Boxuan Academy in Xiayi, and later renamed it Boxuan Academy. 1869, Xiayidi was renamed Hokkaido, with 1 1 country and 86 counties (geographical division). In July of the same year, after the establishment of Hokkaido Development Ambassador (Hakodate was abolished), Hokkaido development was officially carried out.

Because of the Meiji government's policy, many Japanese moved from all parts of the mainland, and the upsurge of development flooded into all parts of the country.
1869, when the Meiji government asked to rename "Xia Yidi", Takeshiro Matsuura used northern place names such as "North" (きた) and "カィナー" (the local name of Ainu people).
