The first stage: Nanyang entrepreneurship

1895, the failure of the Sino-Japanese War and the signing of treaty of shimonoseki put the Chinese nation in danger. In order to learn from the powerful country, Sheng Xuanhuai, the minister of Westernization School, put forward the idea that "self-improvement is based on storing talents, and storing talents must first promote learning", and suggested reforming the old-style educational institutions.
