In 2000, Bethune Medical University merged with Jilin University, Jilin University of Technology, changchun university of science and technology and Changchun University of Posts and Telecommunications to form a new Jilin University. The former Bethune Medical University is a medical college directly under the Ministry of Health. Located at No.828 Xinmin Street, Changchun City, Jilin Province, it covers an area of 182 hectares with a building area of 380,000 square meters.

Bethune Medical University, formerly known as Bethune Health School, was founded in 1939 by Marshal Nie in Tang County, Hebei Province.
