Chengdu University of Technology, located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, was founded by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and the Chengdu Municipal People's Government. It is the first batch of "double-first-class" world-class discipline construction universities in China, and has been selected into the basic ability construction project of central and western universities, the education and training plan for outstanding engineers, the national innovation and entrepreneurship training plan for college students, and the national postgraduate plan for building high-level universities.

Chengdu University of Technology was established with the approval of the State Council 1956. Formerly known as Chengdu Geological Exploration Institute, it is based on the engineering departments of Chongqing University Geology Department, Northwest University Geology Department and Nanjing University Geology Department. Approved by the State Council, Chengdu University of Technology was established in March 2005.
