Civil engineering is an ancient discipline, and most things have been perfected. As far as bridges are concerned, the current avant-garde research directions are:

(1) Wind resistance: Tongji University is the best: Xiang, Ge, etc.

(2) Earthquake resistance: Tongji: Fan, et al. ;

(3) Construction control: Southwest, Tongji: Stone, Liqiao, Pu, etc.

(4) Vibration: Dalian University of Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University: Europe, Xiahe, etc.

There are many, you can read some authoritative journals, such as Journal of Civil Engineering, or news from universities with strong civil engineering, such as Tsinghua, Tongji and Tianda.

Some teachers from Beijing Jiaotong University and Tongji University, as well as Zhu Yongquan from Shijiazhuang Tieda University, are very good at tunnels, and they usually represent the forefront of the discipline.
